All structures serve their unique purposes. The three main city structures, that concern every adventurer in Vana'diel, are basically those that play a big role in the economic well being of the players. Characters from all over the world visit these structures and use them according to their needs. Which merits their being discussed in individual and detailed, sections. So we will move on to city structures of a relatively lesser importance.
Apart from the main city structures there are the gatehouses at the entrance of each city. These guard houses boast some of the more fearsome border guards. The gatehouse guards are responsible for the protection of the citizens from invaders, and roaming beasts that try to enter the cities.
The world of Vana'diel has three major Nations that are not always very cordial with each other. With the spreading mistrust between the Nations of Vana'diel, the Embassies or Conciliates have gained much importance as well. However, another reason for their increased importance is the devised policy of the Allied Army to ensure the safety of the adventurers that risk their lives to fight off the beastmen. These Embassies ensure the profits from merchants, and act as bridges between the Nations of Vana'diel. The high losses of life and property during the Great War against the Dark Lord have taught the nations of Vana'diel an unforgettable lesson against indecisiveness, so the Embassies have been given the right to take direct actions in the case of any emergency without getting prior sanction from their respective countries.
