Specialists of black magic, this class can really churn up some cool spells to hurt the opposition. Their ability to inflict magical damage is quite matchless in the whole of Vana’diel.
Nuke the enemy with black magic. Hurt them bad. FFXI Black Mages can be very destructive at high levels, and to top it off, they do the damage in quick time.
They have low defense, they can rarely survive a tough challenge at the lower levels due to their low HP. So sign up on a party, where the tanking blokes know their job, as soon as you can.
FFXI Black Mages are very important in a party, as they nuke the opposition to deal some heavy blows. Usually they stand at the back of the pack and cast spells on the hordes of enemies.
The Mage's job is to attack with spells, its important that the Mage has a good observation. Knowing what spells to use against what opposition can be just as crucial as having any spells at all. So don’t waste your MP on rubbish spells. It could cost your team dearly.
Both White Mage and Red Mage are good options as they provide a good MP boost. However, the Red Mage sub job won’t get you as much MP as a blm/whm combo would. The White Mage sub job will also add the healing power to the Final Fantasy XI Black Mage, which is always handy.
The Summoner sub job boasts the added incentive of MP boost at level 10, so it can be considered as well.
At low levels, thief sub job will also work out fine with some gil/treasure hunter skills you might end up with more to spend on those expensive spells. So give it a though.
Overcoming low INT/MND is easier than over coming low MP, so choose wisely. MP boosts are pricy stuff around Vana’diel. Keeping that in mind you might find Tarutaru to be better as Black Mages, as they bring MP boost with the job. While the Humes do well also, because they are a well rounded race in the stats. Elvaan can be good as well, but not like the Taru or Hume.
| Race/Specs | HP | MP | STR | DEX | VIT | AGI | INT | MND | CHR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Ability | Level | Re-use Time(min) | Effect |
| Whirlpool Of Magic | 1 | - | Possible to use magic within a certain time limit without losing MP |
