A FFXI Rangeris the king (or queen) of ranged combat. While magicians use magic to deal damage from afar, the Rangers use their arrows and muskets to good effect.
FFXI Rangerbeing an advanced job, you can't sign up to be one before you have a level 30, and completed the Final Fantasy XI RangerQuest in Windurst woods area.
The Rangers are the best exponents of missile weapons in the game. They have high accuracy and the best hits ratio around.
Striking early, and drawing monsters, is their great advantage. Even before the enemy is within melee distance, the Rangers can use their muskets and arrows to inflict damage on the enemy.
They can use a variety of long range weapons. The re-curved bows add range to the striking abilities, while the musket adds a higher damage incentive to make up for their relative inaccuracy in battle.
They are not as proficient melee fighters as they are with their bow and arrow.
The Ranger's position is at the back of the pack; they can strike from long range and do most of the damage to the opposition even before it gets into melee range. Consequently they finish battles early and their comrades suffer less damage.
When within melee range, a ranger can act as a support tank. However, a Ranger's armor is too light to become the primary tank.
Another ability that helps the party enormously is their scanning sense. They can pick up monsters in the radius before you actually confront them, helps in planning an assault.
One thing is for sure, you'll always be in demand!
Ranger/Warrior option will offer you similar perks with evasiona and more accuracy.
Being a Ninja as sub can be great though, as your hit ratio will go up and stealth and evasion will improve. And the Ninjatsu abilities are always handy.
Another smart option would be subbing as a Thief. You will evade more enemy strikes and stirk more yourself. Plus, considering the cost of weapons the FFXI Rangeruses, it won't be a bad option to go for a thief sub job. Surely you won't mind some extra weight in the purse!
Race doesn't really matter for this job, though Galka wouldn't be my choice for a finesse job such as a Ranger, but all races do well. The Mithra would prefer crossbows and Elvaans would rather opt for bows, but it doesnt really mae a huge difference as both of them do the sam job...deal damage!
