These heretic necromancers have attained the forbidden magical abilities of summoning 'pet' monsters tat aid them in their fights. The FFXI Summoner is an advanced job so you should be a level 30 player, who has completed the FFXI Summoner Job Quest, to gain access to this vocation.
Their pacts with the legendary 'Avatars' mean that they can call upon summoned 'pets' to fight along side them. These pets are really handy in fights and they are a strong reason why so many smart Final Fantasy XI Summoners succeed even without parties.
They can play as backup healers and melee-mages. Plus they are good with a staff as well so they are not just fence riders they can deal damage when they move up to fight close combats, but thats negligable do don't try it!
They simply run out of MP! which is their strength, so minus the MP a Final Fantasy XI Summoner isn't half as intimidating to the foes. The summoned pets use up the Master's MP while they are on the battle field so the MP runs out pretty quickly.
You have to defeat a monster first on a battle field before you can summon them, so be brave before you try to be a FFXI Summoner!
They are great in parties where there is a Bard around singing MP regeneration song to rally them on. Their pets are tough customers as they are, but with some assistance from the party members the FFXI Summoner?s pets can be a real hand full!
The Mages make good sub jobs for FFXI Summoners as they add MP to their accounts. Mostly the White Mage is considered the defacto sub job for the Summoners but, I reckon, a more versatile Red Mage wouldn't hurt either. As it is always a good idea to boost stats rather than look to cover those that are not your strenght anyway. It is your choice though.
With the high MP ability of the Tarutaru race, they are the best race for the FFXI Summoner vocation. Galka is a certain no-no and the rest are middle of the road stuff.
| Race/Specs | HP | MP | STR | DEX | VIT | AGI | INT | MND | CHR |

Job abilities mean special strengths which are unlocked after the required number of levels are completed. These can be reused after a specific amount of real-life time has passed (re-use time for each ability is different).
| Ability | Level | Re-Use Time(min) | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astral Flow | 1 | 120 | Permits the Avatars to use their maximum strength |
| Assult | 1 | 7(sec) | Comands the summoned monster to attack the enemy |
| Release | 1 | 5(sec) | Permits the 'pet' to leave |
