The FFXI Warrior is a basic job class, very effective if you love to bash a few beasts around. They are masters of armed combat and are really effective as close melee fighters as well.
These fighters can use almost any sort of weapon. In fact, they utilize the widest array of weapons used by any class in Vana'diel!
They are extremely good fighters, with high HP they can inflict lots of damage. The provocation ability (level: 5) can be used by the FFXI Warrior to get the enemy to concentrate attacks on the warrior himself.
The Final Fantasy XI Warrior has great tanking ability as they can soak up lots of damage from the opposition, so they can take quite a few blows before they go down. In addition, they have both Shield and Perry abilities which makes their defense doubly effective.
Final Fantasy XI Warriors simply have no magic skills. So they can not heal themselves with spells when it gets tough as a solo fighter in the later levels, they need company that has magic abilities. Consequently, if someone tells you to make friends with a White Mage, take the advice.
While playing in a group it's the basic job of a FFXI Warrior to take good care of the Mages and other 'fragile' members of the group. The deal is to keep 'hate' and provoke every 30 seconds so that the enemy's hate is squarely targeted towards the FFXI Warrior and not the Mages. This way the FFXI Warrior can do the Tanking job better and take care of his team members along the way, remember to provoke!
Sub jobs can help diversify the abilities of your Warrior a great deal. Though the sub jobs show only half of the main jobs but they still come in handy when there is a need for plan-B to take action.
For all jobs, there are more than one good options available as sub jobs; combining a FFXI Warrior with a Mage sub-job is a good option as it can provide some magic assistance to your fights. The Warrior-Thief combination can do well also. But as always, it comes down to your own preferences.
As a basic guideline the races with good HP make good FFXI Warriors; The Galka, Humes, Elvaans and the Mithra all do well as Warriors in Final Fantasy XI. The specialists are the Galka and the Elvaan. Just don't expect the Tarutaru to prove their fighting skills as they are certainly not made for the job.
| HP | MP | STR | DEX | VIT | AGI | INT | MND | CHR | |
| Hume | 31 | 0 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 6 |
| Elvaan | 33 | 0 | 9 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 4 | 6 | 6 |
| 36 | 0 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 8 | 7 | 5 | 6 | |
| Mithra | 31 | 0 | 8 | 9 | 6 | 8 | 5 | 5 | 5 |
| Tarutaru | 27 | 0 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 8 | 7 | 5 | 6 |
Each vocation has its pros. Some job abilities give the Warrior special strengths, after the required number of levels is completed. These he can be reused after a specific amount of real-life time has passed (re-use time for each ability is different).
| Ability | Level | Re-use Time (min) | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mighty Strike | 1 | 120 | Physical attacks are critical hits during the effective time period |
| Provocation | 5 | 30 (sec) | Enemy is hate directed towards the FFXI Warrior instead of the rest of the group. |
| Berserker | 15 | 5 | Attack points go up and the defense is more vulnerable, for 3 minutes. |
| Defender | 25 | 3 | Defense becomes stronger while attack isn't so effective, for 3 minutes. |
| War Cry | 35 | 5 | Boosts the attacking power of all comrades in the given area, and soaks up more hate. |
| Aggressor | 45 | 3:30 | Swells the Warrior's hit ratio while the evasive skills go down, for 30 seconds. |
