FFXI Crystals - Final Fantasy XI

A FFXI crystal is a valuable item in Vana'diel. There are a total of eight types of crystals in Final Fantasy XI, each pertaining to a different element of Vana'diel. These differ in the effects and purposes they serve,

  • Darkness crystal has the knack of damaging objects brutally, so once it's finished the target ends up in a decayed an unstable condition.
  • Earth crystal can be used to blend items forming a single entity as the end result.
  • Fire crystal has the potentials of 'fire'; it can heat up or set ablaze objects.
  • Ice crystal can freeze objects or harden them to sub-zero.
  • Light crystal is used to enrich objects.
  • Thunder crystal cuts objects with extreme precision to split them up. It is used alongside the Earth crystal.
  • Water crystal turns things to liquid and dissolves objects.
  • Wind crystal cuts things as well, though it is more of a carver.

FFXI Crystal Usage

FFXI Crystals serve various purposes, and important ones at that. They are used to synthesize objects and form stuff that is not available in markets.

Secondly, you can use crystals in Final Fantasy XI to enhance the speed of your plant's growth, if you decide to take up the gardening hobby. It is said that the FFXI crystal should be fed to the plants either on the day when the crystal's element is strong (Fire crystal on Firesday, water crystal on Watersdays etc.), or on the day which the crystal is strong against.

You can always sell crystals to increase your Gil, so it is always worth the effort to collect them.

Obtaining FFXI Crystals

If you have a Signet spell on you when you kill an enemy, your foe will drop a crystal on its way to hell! You can ask a NPC to cast the spell on you, usually it's the guards present on the guard houses in your home country or the out post guards in regions controlled by your home country that cast Signet for you. An enemy will only yield a FFXI crystal as long as the Signet spell is working. There are lots of theories going around about crystals; one is that you find crystals according to the conditions you fight in. A seas side battle would yield water crystals more often than not and so on.

Also remember to fight foes that are 'easy' and up on the ratings because lower ones are not likely to yield any crystals at all. Now hurry up, the Signet doesn't last forever! :)
