FFXI Fame - Final Fantasy XI

Apart from getting level points, Gil and some very handy items from quests, adventurers also get recognition of their services from the people of relevant countries. Though missions are nation specific, quests are offered by NPCs according to the adventurers fame. You might however find NPCs that refuse to give you quests if you do not have the desired level of fame in that specific part of Vana'diel.

Region Specific FFXI Fame

FFXI Fame is exclusive for each country, except for Jueno.

  • Bastok fame will hold good in Bastok region only.
  • Sand'Oria fame will be useful only for Sand'Oria.
  • Fame in Windurst will hold well in Windurst, Mahura and Kazham as well.
  • Fame in Selbina will be effective when in Selbina or Rabao.
  • Jueno differs from the other regions. The fame in Jueno is firstly, the fame in Jueno itself, and then the fame in other major nations as well. So you will probably need to enjoy a certain degree of fame in the other parts of Vana'diel to get a quest in Jueno.

Fame telling NPCs

You can find out about your fame in the particular part of Vana'diel by asking the fame telling NPCs.

  • The Bastok NPC is a male Hume named Falco. You can find him on Port Bastok at E-6, in front of the Steaming Sheep Tavern.
  • The Sand'Oria NPC is a male Elvaan, called Namonutice, in South San d'Oria. You can find him in the Long Spring Tavern.
  • The Windurst NPC is a Taru male named Zabirego-Hajigo. Look by the Widurst Waters North, Timbre Timbers Tavern.
  • The Jueno NPC is a Hume male named Mendi. He can be found across the Magic Shop in lower Jueno at H-8.
  • The Rabao NPC is a Hume female called Waylea. You can locate her North of the entrance at G-9.
  • The Nogue NPC is an Elvaan male called Vaultimand. You can pick him out standing nest to the Miscellaneous Shop at H-8.

The Nine Levels of FFXI Fame

Interestingly, you won't get a 'you have a level 5 fame' from the NPC. The fame telling NPCs mention your fame in an indirect manner. Fame has nine levels and they are portrayed somewhat like the following;

  • Level 1 - No, I never heard that name. Do not expect me to learn the name of every recruit!
  • Level 2- Hmm....I might have heard that name before. Then again, maybe not.
  • Level 3- That is a name I often hear. People speak well of you!
  • Level 4- You have become well known in these parts! I hear much of your accomplishments.
  • Level 5- You are famous in our kingdom!
  • Level 6- Most everyone in this country knows your name by now! People are saying great things about you.
  • Level 7- Practically, the whole of the kingdom has heard of you now.
  • Level 8- People are talking about you! Every infant in his cradle knows your name!
  • Level 9- There isn't a soul in the kingdom that doesn't consider you a hero!

How FFXI Fame is Supposed to Work

The fame in the region of the quest determines your eligibility for a quest. While there are no hard and fast fame rules to go by, most players agree that the number of quests you complete influences the fame. The uniqueness of the quests affects the fame as well.

In addition, the rank of the adventurer also determines the amount of fame points he gains from a quest. Of course, it is a case of the higher the better.

There are a few quests that increase your fame in one part of Vana'diel and lower it in another part. Spying and smuggling quests lower your fame in the affected region.
