There are many servers for Final Fantasy XI players and Square Enix has chosen an innovative way of assigning servers to the players. Instead of allowing a FFXI player to choose their server on character creation, server selection has been launched through the introduction of World Pass in FFXI. FFXI World Passes are 'codes' that provide access to the intended server. Enter the world pass code after you have made your character and you'll sign on to the server.
To start off in Vana'diel you don't have the option to choose a server of your own liking. New players are automatically assigned servers and they essentially start off from there. This is done through an automatic rotation system.
To shift to the server of your own choice, you have to buy the World Pass in the game.
The procedure is pretty straightforward, once you can afford a World Pass you can go to the nearest NPC and buy one. NPCs That Issue World Passes are:
You can buy a World pass form the specified NPCs in the starting cities of Vana'diel. A World pass normally costs over a 1000 Gil at least. But the price of a world pass isn't fixed; it changes according to the existing population of that server.
Each World Pass works for a period of one week and 5 characters can be made with one world pass. So you can now ask your friends to join up with you on the server you are on or you could change servers if someone from the other server sends you a world pass.
The thing that puts off a few players is the fact that once you change servers you have to start form square one. You lose levels and the equipment you have earned up to the point. So effectively, you start over. The slow leveling has to be done again.
But even with the drawback the diehard FFXI fans aren't put off too much, it just becomes another challenge of the MMORPG.
