Hailing from the Republic of Bastok; the FFXI Hume are known to be a practical and industrious race. Showing immense interest in economic progress, the FFXI Humes developed Bastok into a hub of economic activity and technology. This, in fact, played a major role in the FFXI Humes and Galkas combined efforts in defeating of the elite San d'Orian Knights in the second battle of Konschtat, giving birth to the Age of Technology in Vana'diel.
The biggest achievement of the FFXI Hume race was the development of the new nation state of the Grand Duchy of Jeuno. This was the state whose Grand Duke managed to assemble all the Vana'diel races under one flag to fight off the horrendous beastmen of the Dark Lord during the CrystalWars.
Bright and decidedly skilled, the Final Fantasy XI Hume are conceivably the most versatile race in the whole of Vana'diel. They are closer to humans in their characteristics than any other race in Vana'diel. The Final Fantasy XI Humes are real 'all-rounders' when it comes to their abilities. So this race may be your best pick if you are not sure of the job role you will take or if you want to try out different jobs as you progress. However, the FFXI Humes are a 'jack-of-all-trades' kind of race; they will never be proficient in one art like the other more specialized races, so mind your choice.
The FFXI Hume benefit from good relations with Galkas, who call Bastok their homeland as well. However, not all Galka, especially the mine workers, are very cordial towards the Final Fantasy XI Hume race.
Bastok is the homeland of the Final Fantasy XI Humes, therefore, if you start off as a Hume from this city will give you a Bastok Ring which will add +3 HP, +1 Dexterity and +1 Vitality to your character.
Because of the all round characteristics of the FFXI Hume race, they are suitable for any job from a Warrior to out and out necromancer in form of the Mages or a Summoner.
